Sewer Improvements in the Parish
Southern Water will be undertaking a large project to line the sewer pipes in Funtington and West Ashling as the first stage in a project to prevent flooded sewers on the pipeline from Funtington to Bosham.

As councillors we have been working closely, over the past 11 months, with Southern Water, to try and find ways to minimise future road closures, and to try to mitigate potential damage to our roads and verges. Hopefully any disruption caused by tankers, their pumping, and their movements throughout the parish this coming winter will be greatly reduced.
Parish Councillor Jason Boswell writes:
”On 16th September the Clean Rivers & Seas project team at SouthernWater started a months-long project in parts of Funtington village to seal the public and private sewer pipes to stop groundwater from getting into them. Many residents will know that the ground water levels rise in winter due to rainfall, and in some areas the sewer pipes then sit below the water level and have a tendency to leak water in. This results in no end of issues where the pipes and treatment works cannot cope with the volume of water, resulting in tankers, overflows, and spills into gardens and our chalk stream. This projectin Funtington, sitting at the very top of the Bosham Catchment sewer, is justthe first part of a multi-year project that we hope will solve the issues along the whole length via West Ashling, Ratham Lane, Bosham and Bosham Hoe. We have our fingers crossed!”
