Funtington Parish Council News.
Thank you to all of those who came along to the recent Parish Social Evening, it was an amazing turn out, and in response to the amount of positive feedback that we received, we will try and arrange some similar events in the future.
The evening was intended primarily as a Parish Social, as well as a chance to meet and chat with parish councillors, and our new District Councillor.
We invited some guest speakers along to the evening to talk about local issues, Shona Archer, a senior Enforcement Officer with Chichester District Council, spoke about the problems that Enforcement Officers encounter and the difficulties they experience when trying to enforce Enforcement Notices.
We also had two policemen from Chichester station attend the meeting who spoke about the difficulties they experience because of a shortage of Police Officers. We were also advised to call 101 if we wish to speak to the Police, on a non-emergency matter.
Nick Baird also spoke to us about the pig farm and told us that sadly the pigs would all be gone from the farm by spring 2024, Nick spoke at length about the future of the Baird’s farm and Broadley Copse.
Rachel our Parish Clerk, spoke about communication and ways in which we could engage with residents in this Parish, to contact Rachel please email her on: clerk@funtingtonpc.org
Councillor Littler (Richard) also updated everyone present on the ‘Speedwatch’ initiative, this initiative requires more people to be actively involved if we are going to do anything positive about slowing the traffic down through our villages, so please contact our Parish Clerk if you feel you could spare a few hours and would like to get involved.
Kate Du-Port also spoke about the SID (Speed Indicator Device) that is moved around between West Ashling and Funtington, Kate has been moving this SID around for us, and downloading the information collected on the device, for the past 3 years. Kate would now like to step down, so if anyone feels that they could take over this task then please get in touch with the Parish Clerk, meanwhile we would like to say a huge thank you to Kate who has been carrying out this task for the parish. Bob Money does a brilliant job of moving another SID around East Ashling and West Stoke.
At our October PC meeting we discussed general maintenance/replacement/repair of Parish assets, and we discussed the foreseeable flooding problems which we experience every winter. This year we will try and get funding to employ a professional to identify the problems and then produce a report on how to mitigate against or resolve the flooding issues we experience around the parish.
We are also delighted to welcome Elizabeth Paris, as a co-opted member, onto Funtington Parish Council, Elizabeth is already a member of the Steering Group for our Neighbourhood Plan, and I know Elizabeth will be a great asset to the Parish Council,………and now we are nine!
Meanwhile our Parish Clerk Rachel is trying to update the rather ‘clunky’ parish website for us and hopefully get this site to be a bit more user friendly. If you can’t find what you are looking for on this site, please do contact Rachel. Please also contact Rachel if you would like to be added to our mailing list, a list which we are hoping to build up so that we can keep in touch with as many of you as possible electronically.
