Parish News – May 2024

Despite meetings with Southern Water project leaders, we are still receiving mixed messages from SW project leaders and managers. We have been told that a representative will attend our June PC meeting to give us all an update, let’s hope they have some positive news for us all.

Chichester District Council have permitted the 5 applications for the existing Newells Lane Gypsy and Traveller site, allowing a further 11 pitches on this site, bringing the total number of pitches on these 3 now joined together sites in West Ashling to 70.

Roy Briscoe (Westbourne) and I invited Gillian Keegan to attend a meeting in West Ashling Hall on Friday 26th April to answer parishioners’ questions, all the questions raised by those attending were focused on the Gypsy and Traveller sites and on our foul water drainage problems.

Roy and I are pushing Gillian to raise questions with the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities, Roy and I want to have a true definition, directly from DLHD, of the word ‘Dominate’ and we want to have the document PPTS (Planning Policy for Gypsy and Travellers) either amended or totally removed. We feel that the gypsy and traveller site in West Ashling and the sites in Westbourne should not be permitted to expand anymore, especially as we just do not have the infrastructure to sustain this rapid growth.

The new WSCC Flex 96 book-a-bus service has now expanded its services west of the B2146 and down to Westbourne and Woodmancote.

The 96 Flex bus travels within a flexible zone determined by everyone’s bookings.

  • Covers Westbourne and all villages north of the A27 into the SDNP
  • Book your seat on the day or up to 24 hours before a local journey
  • Confirm pick-up / drop-off on 01243 858854 (6:30am – 7:30pm)
  • All Flex 96 Book-a-bus journeys are FREE with a bus pass.

Thank you to everyone who filled in the Parish Neighbourhood Plan questionnaire, we had a really great response and some really helpful suggestions, if you would still like to fill out a questionnaire but missed the deadline, please email me at jane.mottershead@funtingtonpc.org .

The parish council has received some grant funding which will allow them to form a new PC website, the new website will be more user friendly than the current site and will be split into 2 parts, one part will contain the minutes and agendas and the council policies, and another part will be more of a social media/community site containing local news and news about local events.

If you wish to become a member of the Parish Council or would like to know more about becoming a councillor, please contact the parish clerk at clerk@funtingtonpc.org .

If you wish to receive regular updates on all Funtington parish news please let the parish clerk have your email address, once we have enough email addresses, we will start to send out regular newsletters and dates to put in your diaries to all those who’s email addresses we have.
