Funington Parish Council

The Parish Council has arranged a meeting with WSCC Highways to discuss the problems we experience around the parish, due to flood water. At this meeting with Highways, we will be able to establish ownership of some of the ditches which need clearing. The parish council will be trying to get some funding from WSCC to enable them to have some survey work undertaken to establish how some of the flooding issues we experience around the parish, may be resolved.

We are also trying to arrange a meeting with Southern Water to see what mitigation measures can be put into place by them, to ease the problems and disruption we experience every time we get a heavy rainfall.

The new ‘book-a-bus’ service is now up and running, although it currently does not cover West Ashling,  we are hoping that the service will be extended in the Spring to cover the whole of the parish.  To “Book-a-Bus”, residents need to download the “Ride Pingo” app or call the call centre on 01243 858854. Bookings for the fully flexible service can be made for up to five passengers per trip, subject to availability.  More information can be found at westsussex.gov.uk/book-a-bus.

The parish clerk receives a lot of correspondence, and it takes a lot of her time to respond to what are sometimes questions for which the answers can be found on the Parish website, so if you do have questions regarding parish business do please look on the parish website first to see if you can find the answer to your question there.

We now have a volunteer who will be moving the ‘SID’ devises around West Ashling and Funtington, which is brilliant news.

Julian Joy came to our February meeting to talk about the latest speed reduction initiatives, Julian feels there was little help given to parish councils from WSCC Highways in the compiling of parish councils speed reduction applications, Julian is hopeful that that situation will improve and that we will receive more help when we re-submit our applications.

The next parish council meeting will be on Wednesday 6th March at 18:30 in the Church Room at St Mary’s Church.
